Heading into the fixture, the Villains had genuine reason for optimism. News broke shortly before puck drop that Exyria’s talisman and top scorer, lycoros, had withdrawn from the match. Combined with several hours of intense preparation, Oakham Villa arrived full of confidence, ready to make a statement on the big stage.
The match also marked a milestone moment for several players. iPlexity, teato, UnicornPvke, and RosePoop all made their official professional hockey debuts, while snw, having only featured briefly before, was included to bolster the lineup. It was a fresh, determined squad stepping onto the rink with belief.
However, that belief was quickly tested.
Exyria came out relentless, punishing every gap and capitalising on early nerves. Before Villa could settle, the scoreboard had already spiralled to 10–0 in Exyria’s favour, a harsh reflection of the visitors’ clinical edge rather than Villa’s effort.
Despite the scoreline, Oakham showed resilience. A moment of quality broke through the dominance when teato produced a superb solo effort, cutting through the Exyria defence and finishing confidently. The play was sparked by iPlexity, who provided the assist, giving the Villains a deserved consolation and a moment to build on.
At 1–10, there was a flicker of hope, but Exyria quickly reasserted control. The Exorcists continued their relentless pressure, adding nine more goals to seal a comprehensive 19–1 victory.
