Oakham Villa began their first IHL Championship campaign with two wins away to fellow newcomers Zirakdum Mighty Dwarves, recording victories of 26-0 and 9-4 in their opening league fixtures.
The first game was dominated by Oakham from the outset, with Villa already 14-0 ahead at half time before going on to complete a 26-0 victory, the club’s biggest competitive win to date. snw and teato led the scoring with eight goals each, while iPlexity scored six and second-half substitute Goneguy5 added four.
It was also a notable game for several members of the squad. teato, iPlexity and Goneguy5 all reached 10 career goals, while Oakham completed the first clean sheet of their IHL campaign.
The second game provided a very different test. Zirakdum made an excellent start and took a 3-0 lead through NotDuffy and two goals from Primflounder175. snw was introduced from the bench and quickly changed the game, scoring three consecutive goals to bring Villa level before iPlexity and Goneguy5 completed the turnaround to give Oakham a 5-3 advantage by half time.
Oakham maintained control after the break and eventually secured a 9-4 victory. snw finished with five goals despite beginning the match on the bench, with iPlexity and Goneguy5 adding two each. His final goal also took him to 25 career goals, while new signing Polysemic made his first appearance for the club late in the second half.
Across the double-header, snw finished as Oakham’s leading scorer with 13 goals, followed by teato and iPlexity with eight each and Goneguy5 with six. Villa scored 35 goals and conceded four across the two fixtures, giving them two wins from two and a +31 goal difference to begin their Championship campaign.
The results continued Oakham’s strong run following their Lyrean Invitational victory and provided a successful start to the club’s first IHL season.
