Oakham Villa
Oakham Villa continued their preparations for the upcoming IHL season in emphatic fashion on Saturday evening, recording back-to-back victories over the Cortesian Comets.
Villa won the opening game 14-2 before following it up with a 19-1 victory just half an hour later, completing the evening with a 33-3 aggregate scoreline.
The first fixture saw a much more balanced spread of goals across the Oakham lineup. teato and iPlexity both finished with five goals each, while recent signing Goneguy5 added a hat-trick. snw completed Villa's scoring after coming into the game during the second half.
Villa started quickly through teato before two successive iPlexity goals put the hosts firmly in control. KitamiBlueHeart briefly responded for the Comets, but goals from Goneguy5, another two from teato and a third from iPlexity meant Oakham carried a commanding advantage into half time.
The pressure continued after the break. snw scored shortly after the restart, with teato, Goneguy5 and iPlexity all adding further goals. MyaOfTruth found the Comets' second of the match, but Villa remained comfortably in control as teato completed his five-goal haul before iPlexity and Goneguy5 rounded off the 14-2 victory.
If the first game demonstrated Villa's depth in attack, the second belonged overwhelmingly to snw.
The Villa captain scored 12 times in the 19-1 win, accounting for almost two thirds of Oakham's goals. Goneguy5 continued an impressive evening of his own with another six, while teato also found the net. KitamiBlueHeart scored the Comets' only goal of the second fixture.
snw opened the scoring before teato doubled Villa's advantage. Two further goals from snw followed before KitamiBlueHeart gave the visitors something to celebrate. Villa quickly responded, however, with snw scoring again before Goneguy5 grabbed his first of the match.
Goneguy5 was introduced in place of RosePoop before half time and became increasingly influential as the game progressed.
After the interval, Oakham completely took control. snw scored three consecutive goals before Goneguy5 added another, and the pair proceeded to dominate the remainder of the scoring.
snw eventually reached 12 goals for the match, while Goneguy5's six meant he finished the double-header with nine goals overall. teato scored six across the two fixtures, while iPlexity's five all came during the opening victory.
Across both games, snw led the scoring with 13 goals, followed by Goneguy5 with nine, teato with six and iPlexity with five.
The two victories also made it two wins from two in Oakham Villa's head-to-head record against the Cortesian Comets.
While both fixtures were non-competitive, the evening offered another useful opportunity for Villa to rotate the roster and give players game time ahead of the new IHL campaign.
With 33 goals scored across two matches and contributions coming from throughout the squad, it proved to be a productive night as preparations for competitive hockey continue.
